(SRN NEWS)-The government has granted legal status to nearly 200 churches and church-affiliated buildings after years of delay. Religious freedom advocates have complained for decades about Egypt’s unusually slow process of allowing Christians to legally open houses of worship. Christians make up about 10% of the country’s population and while they enjoy generally good relations with the government, the legal status issue has been a sore spot.
