(SRN NEWS)- The congregation of St. Paul’s By The Sea Episcopal runs a homeless shelter and Ocean City wants it shut down. City officials say the church is violating zoning codes and the two sides have filed suit against each other. It’s a problem that is cropping up all across the country as courts try to weigh the right of a church to carry out the tenets of its faith versus the responsibility of local governments to control zoning laws.
