Yemen’s Houthis say they attacked ship in northern Red Sea

CAIRO (Reuters) -Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said on Tuesday that they had attacked a ship in the northern Red Sea with two drones and a missile because of its connection to Israel.
The group did not say when the attack happened. There was no immediate confirmation of the attack from maritime sources.
“The Yemeni armed forces carried out a joint military operation targeting the ship … for violating the (Houthi) decision to ban entry to the ports of occupied Palestine,” the group’s spokesperson said.
The Houthis on Sunday attacked the Israeli-owned tanker Scarlet Ray near Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea port city of Yanbu in a rare attack off the Saudi coast.
Israel last Thursday killed the prime minister of Yemen’s Houthi-run government and several other ministers in a strike on the capital Sanaa, the first such attack to kill senior officials.
The Houthis have launched numerous attacks on vessels in the Red Sea since 2023 that they deem to be linked with Israel in what they say is solidarity with Palestinians in Israel’s war on Gaza.
