The Chicago White Sox reinstated infielder Miguel Vargas, who was on the 10-day injured list because of a sprained left hand, before their home game Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox optioned infielder Bryan Ramos to Triple-A Charlotte. In other moves, the team recalled right-hander Sean Burke from Charlotte and designated veteran right-hander Dan Altavilla for assignment.

Vargas, 25, was injured in a collision with Aaron Judge during an Aug. 28 game against the New York Yankees. Vargas bent his arm and wrist backward while trying to field an off-line throw at first base and remained down on the field before exiting the game in the fifth inning. He went 1-for-2 with his first career grand slam in the 10-4 loss.

The Cuban-born infielder is batting .234 with 30 doubles, 14 home runs, 52 RBIs and 69 runs over 121 games this season, his second with Chicago.

Ramos, 23, is 2-for-12 (.167) with two doubles and two RBI over four games with the White Sox this season.

Burke, 25, is 4-10 with a 4.28 ERA, 54 walks and 110 strikeouts in 117 2/3 innings over 24 games (20 starts) this season.

Altavilla, who turned 33 on Monday, was 0-1 with two saves, a 2.48 ERA, 15 walks and 21 strikeouts in 29 innings over 28 relief appearances in his first season with the White Sox.

He is a career 8-9 with three saves, a 4.00 ERA, 78 walks and 155 strikeouts in 148 2/3 innings over 152 games (one start) for the Seattle Mariners (2016-20), San Diego Padres (2020-21), Kansas City Royals (2024) and White Sox.
