Feb 5 (Reuters) – The House Judiciary Committee on Thursday issued a subpoena to Coupang as part of its ongoing probe into alleged discrimination against U.S. companies, seeking communications between the e-commerce firm and the South Korean government.

The panel also called on the company to testify.

“Coupang will fully cooperate with the U.S. House Judiciary Committee investigation, including production of documents and witness testimony as required by the subpoena,” the company said in a statement.

Representatives for Seoul could not be immediately reached for comment.

The Republican head of the committee, Representative Jim Jordan, in a statement pointed to U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade deal with South Korea and accused the Asian ally of a “sharp escalation” that “directly conflicts with its recent commitment to avoid discriminatory treatment and the creation of unnecessary barriers for U.S. digital service providers.”
