Trump, US House speaker and tech CEOs to meet on AI on September 29, source says

WASHINGTON, Sept 24 (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump, Republican House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson and tech CEOs will hold a meeting on artificial intelligence on September 29, a source familiar with the planned meeting said late on Thursday.

• The world’s leading artificial intelligence companies have warned of the risks ​posed by AI to humanity, appealing for governments to work together to manage the increasingly powerful technology.

• Governments around ​the world have struggled to keep pace with rapid advances in AI.

• The planned meeting was reported earlier by Axios. Further details were not immediately available.

• The United States and China, the two leading powers in ⁠AI development, have taken different approaches to oversight.

• Trump has argued the US does not need new AI-specific regulations, while China has imposed rules governing AI algorithms and ​training data, including requirements that AI-generated content be clearly labeled.

• Trump told world ⁠leaders at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday he “rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control” AI, describing the technology as amazing but noting the US would be careful.
