WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday Uzbekistan Airways signed a deal with Boeing for over $8 billion in which Uzbekistan Airways plans to acquire up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Trump said on Truth Social he spoke to Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev earlier this month. Boeing separately issued a statement on the order on Monday.

The agreement was secured on Monday with a signing on the margins of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York City, the U.S. Commerce Department said.

Trump and Boeing said the deal will support nearly 35,000 U.S. jobs.

The Commerce Department put the deal’s value at $8.5 billion and called it “the largest commercial aircraft agreement of its kind in Central Asia.”

Uzbekistan is buying 14 Dreamliners with options for another eight of the aircraft, according to the deal.
