WASHINGTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order to appoint a second emergency board to conduct mediation to avert a work stoppage at the Long Island Rail Road, which serves nearly 300,000 passengers daily.

A group of five unions this week asked Trump again to intervene after some unions previously threatened to launch a strike at the railroad serving New York commuters after a three-year contract dispute. Trump had named a board in September to head off a potential labor dispute ahead of a major golf tournament.
