WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended his push for a Republican-backed plan to redraw Texas congressional districts before the midterm congressional elections in 2026.

“We have a really good governor and we have good people in Texas and I won Texas,” he said in an interview with CNBC. “I got the highest vote in the history of Texas, as you probably know, and we are entitled to five more seats.”

When asked if he plans to run again, he replied “probably not” before saying later he’d like to run. U.S. presidents are limited to two four-year terms, consecutive or not, according to the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
