Three die in boating crash at Alabama pro fishing tournament

(Reuters) -Three people died and three were injured when two fishing boats collided at a Major League Fishing event on Lewis Smith Lake in Alabama on Wednesday, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said.

One man was fatally injured when the vessel he was onboard was struck by another boat, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others who were thrown overboard drowned and their bodies were later recovered.

Major League Fishing cancelled Thursday’s final day of competition after the incident.

“This is a heartbreaking moment for our entire organization,” said Kathy Fennel, MLF Executive Vice President and General Manager.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by this tragedy.”
