US Deploys 2nd Carrier as Iran Nuclear Talks Advance

As the US and Iran prepare for a second round of nuclear negotiations, a second American aircraft carrier has entered Middle East waters, escalating the strategic pressure on Tehran. Satellite images confirmed that the USS Carl Vinson and its strike group are now operating in the Arabian Sea, joining the USS Harry S. Truman, which has been involved in strikes on Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen since March.
US officials say the deployment is part of a broader campaign to influence the talks. President Donald Trump has warned that failure to reach an agreement could lead to military action. Iran, meanwhile, continues to enrich uranium to 60% purity—just below weapons-grade—and has signaled a willingness to negotiate. “The first steps have been taken well and executed properly,” said Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday. “We may or may not reach a result, but either way, it’s worth pursuing.”
US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, who led negotiations in Oman last weekend, said the talks were partly based on the 2015 nuclear deal but would require Iran to halt enrichment above 3.67% and submit to more rigorous inspections. “They do not need to enrich past 3.67%,” Witkoff told Fox News.
While Iranian media linked to the Revolutionary Guard hinted at a possible deal, the future of Iran’s ballistic missile program remains a sticking point. Trump administration officials say any final agreement must also address Iran’s stockpiles and its capability to develop a nuclear bomb trigger.
