UAE Says Iranian Attacks Resume as US Pushes To Reopen Strait of Hormuz

By The Media Line Staff

The United Arab Emirates said Monday that Iran had resumed attacks on its territory, reporting cruise missile launches, a drone strike near Fujairah’s oil infrastructure, and maritime incidents off its coast as the US moved to reopen shipping through the Strait of Hormuz during a fragile ceasefire.

The UAE Defense Ministry said Iran launched four cruise missiles, three of which were intercepted while one fell into the sea. Authorities in Fujairah said a fire broke out at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone after what they described as a drone attack originating from Iran. Civil defense teams were sent to contain the blaze. Iran did not immediately comment on the Fujairah allegation.

The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported two cargo vessels on fire off the UAE. Separately, South Korea said an explosion and fire occurred aboard a South Korean-operated ship anchored in the strait, with no injuries reported. The UAE also accused Iran of targeting an empty tanker linked to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company with drones as it moved through the waterway.

The incidents came as US Central Command said two American-flagged merchant vessels had safely transited the Strait of Hormuz under a new US effort to restore commercial traffic. President Donald Trump said Sunday that Iranian interference with the operation “will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully.”

Iran’s military rejected the US move and warned foreign forces against entering the strait. “We warn that any foreign military force — especially the aggressive U.S. military — that intends to approach or enter the Strait of Hormuz will be targeted,” Maj. Gen. Ali Abdollahi told Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.

The Strait of Hormuz, which links the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, is one of the world’s most important oil and gas routes. The UAE has previously said Iranian attacks on infrastructure and civilian sites violate its sovereignty and threaten regional security.
