Saudi Crown Prince Promises $600 Billion US Investment During Call With Trump
By The Media Line Staff
Saudi Arabia’s crown prince told US President Donald Trump on Thursday that he plans to invest $600 billion in the US over the next four years, according to Saudi state media reports.
The state-run Saudi Press Agency reported that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulated President Trump on his victory and discussed plans for cooperation between the two countries. The White House has not published a readout of the call.
After his inauguration on Monday, the president suggested that he might make Saudi Arabia the first international destination of his presidency, just as he did in 2017. “I did it with Saudi Arabia last time because they agreed to buy $450 billion worth of our products,” he told journalists. “If Saudi Arabia wanted to buy another $450 billion or $500—we’ll up it for all the inflation—I think I’d probably go.”
President Trump cultivated warm ties with Saudi Arabia during his first term. Those ties were strained in 2018 when Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated by the Saudi government.
On Monday, the president told reporters that he expects Saudi Arabia to normalize relations with Israel soon. Talks between Saudi Arabia and the Biden administration about establishing diplomatic ties with Israel were ongoing for years but stalled following the breakout of the Israel-Hamas war.
