President Trump Renews Threat To Strike Iran’s Energy Infrastructure if Strait of Hormuz Not Opened

By The Media Line Staff

US President Donald Trump on Monday issued a renewed threat to target Iran’s energy infrastructure, including electric generating plants and oil wells,  if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened. He also indicated that the US was negotiating with a “new and more reasonable regime.”

He wrote on Truth Social that the United States is in “serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME” to end military operations in Iran, adding that “great progress has been made,” but warning that if a deal is not reached and the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately “Open for Business,” the US could “blow up and completely obliterat[e]” Iran’s electric generating plants and oil wells, as well as Kharg Island.

He added the strikes would be carried out “in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year ‘Reign of Terror.’”

The statement follows comments Trump made Sunday, indicating the United States could soon reach an agreement with Iran. In a speech, he said the US is engaged in “direct and indirect” talks and described the position as “very good,” adding, “I think we’ll make a deal with them very soon. It may not happen, but I do see an agreement with Iran; it could happen soon.”

Also, on Sunday, Trump told the Financial Times that seizing Iranian oil assets remained under consideration. “To be honest with you, my favorite thing is to take the oil in Iran, but some stupid people back in the US say: ‘Why are you doing that?’ But they’re stupid people,” he said.

He added, “Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options,” and said, “It would also mean we had to be there [in Kharg Island] for a while.” He added, “I don’t think they have any defense. We could take it very easily.”

US officials told the Wall Street Journal that Trump is considering a special ground operation to extract 1,000 pounds of uranium from Iran, though no final decision has been made.
