A new survey indicates that more Israelis back than oppose US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war in Gaza, including a growing share of coalition voters.
The Maariv poll, conducted by Lazar Research on September 25, found that 53% of Israelis support Trump’s 21-point plan, while 17% oppose it and 30% remain undecided. Among opposition voters, support reached 72%, compared with just 4% opposed. For the first time since the conflict began, more coalition voters now favor the plan than reject it, with 41% in support and 33% against.
Maariv correspondent Anna Barsky noted in a recent column that sentiment within Likud is shifting, with nearly half of the party’s activists now believing the fighting should end—an opinion rarely expressed until recently.
Trump’s plan, presented in his recent meeting with Arab leaders and expected to be discussed in his talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, centers on the release of all hostages within 48 hours of signing. In return, Israel would gradually withdraw forces from Gaza. Reports suggest the outline also includes the release of between 100 and 200 terrorists serving long sentences in exchange for hostages and offers amnesty to Hamas leaders who surrender their weapons and leave the Strip.
According to Al Arabiya, the proposal envisions a complete Israeli withdrawal, the reopening of Gaza crossings, and a five-year reconstruction program led by an international coalition. Governance would shift to a Palestinian security force under Arab and international supervision, with a temporary committee managing day-to-day affairs on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.
Maariv previously reported that pressure has been mounting on Hamas and Qatari mediators to move forward with a deal. The plan includes expelling most of Hamas’s Gaza Brigade and establishing new arrangements for civilian rule.
The poll surveyed 502 Israeli adults, both Jewish and Arab, and has a maximum sampling error of 4.4%.
