Jordan Vows To Protect Airspace From Iran-Israel Conflict

Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi declared on Saturday that the kingdom will not serve as a battleground for Iran or Israel as the region braces for potential new attacks by Tehran and its allies. This statement comes in the wake of recent targeted killings of senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah.

“We will not be a battlefield for Iran or Israel. We informed the Iranians and the Israelis that we will not allow anyone to violate our airspace and risk the safety of our citizens,” Safadi stated during an interview with Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV. He emphasized Jordan’s commitment to intercept any threats that traverse its airspace.

In April, Jordan reported intercepting flying objects entering its airspace during a direct retaliatory attack by Iran on Israel, which included explosive drones and missiles. This incident followed a suspected Israeli strike on Iran’s embassy compound in Syria.

Jordanian, Iraqi, and Turkish officials indicated that Iran provided some early warning of its actions at that time. Iran has since pledged to “punish” Israel for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’ political leader, in Tehran on July 31, an act that both Iran and Hamas attribute to Israel.
