The annual torch-lighting ceremony, reflecting the current national mood, was pre-recorded for the first time and featured a distinctly somber tone. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s inserted message contrasted sharply with the event’s reflective and subdued atmosphere. The country’s population grew by about 189,000 people over the last year, fueled by the birth of 196,000 babies and the arrival of 37,000 immigrants despite a decrease in immigration from the previous year. As Israel’s demographic landscape continues to evolve, its population includes 73.2% Jewish Israelis, 21.1% Arabs, and 5.7% from other minority groups.
