Israeli Strikes on Syria Kill 4, Injure 13, Say Syrian Authorities

By The Media Line Staff

Israeli airstrikes late Sunday hit various areas in central Syria, resulting in the deaths of at least four people and injuring 13, according to Syrian state media. The attacks caused fires and significant damage to a highway in Hama province. Syrian air defenses responded to what was described as an “aggression” in the region, and firefighting teams worked through early Monday to control the blazes.

The casualties were taken to Masyaf National Hospital in Hama, but it was unclear if they were civilians or members of armed groups. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based war monitor, one of the targets was a research facility in Masyaf where Iranian experts and militias were allegedly developing weapons. Additional strikes were reported near Tartus‎, a city on Syria’s coast.

There has been no official response from Israel regarding the strikes. Israel has frequently carried out airstrikes in Syria over recent years, targeting government forces and Iranian-backed groups. Israeli officials have stated their aim is to prevent Iran from establishing a stronger military presence in Syria, a key transit route for weapons being sent to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The strikes come amid ongoing tensions, with Hezbollah actively engaged against Israeli forces for the past 11 months, particularly after Israel’s war with Hamas, Hezbollah’s ally, in Gaza.
