Israeli Killed, Another Injured in West Bank Drive-by Shooting

By The Media Line Staff

An Israeli man was killed and another was injured in a drive-by shooting targeting motorists on a major highway in the West Bank on Sunday, according to military and medical officials. The attack occurred near the Mehola Junction along Route 90, a key north-south route in the Jordan Valley.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded by deploying a large number of troops to the area to search for the assailants, who were believed to be Palestinian terrorists. The attackers fired on two cars with an assault rifle, leaving shell casings at the scene, according to an initial investigation by the IDF.

The two vehicles were approximately 250 meters apart. In the first car, a 23-year-old man named Yonatan Deutsch from Beit She’an was fatally shot. In the second vehicle, 32-year-old Anas Jaramana from the Arab Israeli village of Muqeible was moderately injured and taken to an Israeli hospital.

Jaramana was able to report the incident to authorities, but medics arriving at the scene found Deutsch in critical condition and pronounced him dead shortly afterward.

Beit She’an Mayor Noam Juma mourned Deutsch as a dedicated volunteer who had made significant contributions to the community, describing him as having “a huge heart that left a big mark on the city.”
