Israeli Delegation Holds Ceasefire Talks in Cairo

An Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo on Sunday to meet with Egyptian mediators as part of renewed efforts to secure a ceasefire and the release of hostages held in Gaza, Qatari media reported today. The talks, facilitated by Egypt and Qatar, aim to revive stalled negotiations between Israel and Hamas and reach a comprehensive agreement that could bring the war to an end.
The Israeli delegation’s visit is believed to have followed US pressure on Israel, with sources telling Qatari media that the Trump administration is pressing Israel to secure the release of American hostages or those with American family.
According to Saudi media, a Hamas delegation is set to travel to Cairo soon, and mediated talks between the two sides are expected to take place in Doha in the coming days.
Mediators have proposed a long-term truce lasting five to seven years, a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinians imprisoned in Israel. According to BBC and Qatari reports, the deal would also formally end hostilities and may include postwar arrangements for Gaza’s governance.
A senior Palestinian official told the BBC that the proposal was shared with both sides. According to the BBC, Israel has yet to issue a formal response, while Hamas has expressed openness to a broad agreement. Some Hamas officials are reportedly willing to place weapons under guard and accept governance by the Palestinian Authority or an independent Palestinian technocratic body.
