Israel Strikes Hezbollah Commander as Lebanon Rejects Normalization

An Israeli drone strike on Wednesday night resulted in the death of a senior Hezbollah commander, the Israeli military reported today.
Ahmed Adnan Bajija, a battalion commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan force, was reportedly killed in the strike, which targeted the village of Derdghaya, near the Maaroub municipality in southern Lebanon’s Tyre District.
According to the Israeli military, Bajija played a key role in directing numerous attacks against Israel during the conflict. Israel said that he continued to orchestrate efforts to launch terror attacks on the Israeli home front even during the ceasefire.
The strike took place hours after representatives for both Hezbollah and the Lebanese government rejected the idea of normalization with Israel. During a speech on Wednesday, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem condemned Israel’s ongoing military presence in southern Lebanon. He expressed that violent resistance remains Lebanon’s best defense and vowed to reject any normalization of ties with Israel.
Speaking to journalists during the visit of French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed a similar sentiment. “No one in Lebanon wants normalization with Israel, and it is rejected by all Lebanese,” Salam said. He criticized Israel’s ongoing pressure on Lebanon, particularly its occupation of key areas, and stressed the importance of rallying international and Arab support to counter Israel’s actions.
Lebanese officials have been in close contact with US and French diplomats to prevent further escalation and ensure Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
