US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee delivered an impassioned address at the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) International Policy Summit in Jerusalem on Monday, emphasizing the moral dimensions of the Israel-Hamas conflict and urging greater international support for Israel’s security and sovereignty.
Reflecting on his longstanding personal ties to Israel, Huckabee recounted visiting the country for the first time 52 years ago. He joked that he gladly accepted his current post, saying, “I would much rather live in Jerusalem than in Washington, DC,” and quipped that when Israelis asked for a Maccabee, “President Trump misunderstood and sent you a Huckabee.”
Huckabee said his first act as ambassador was to deliver a handwritten prayer from President Donald Trump to the Western Wall, calling it a symbol of the enduring spiritual connection between the United States and Israel.
Framing the current conflict with Hamas, Huckabee declared, “This is a battle between heaven and hell, between good and evil, between light and darkness,” and insisted, “Hamas has no future in Gaza or anywhere else in the world.”
The ambassador stressed that the US–Israel relationship is not a one-way street. Citing Israeli innovations in medicine, military technology, and consumer products like the cell phone, Huckabee said, “America benefits greatly from its relationship to Israel.”
He also shared emotional personal stories, including that of Luis Har, an Argentinian hostage who survived 129 days of Hamas captivity, and Sgt. Rose Lubin, a young American Israeli woman with family roots in Arkansas who immigrated to Israel, served in the Israel Defense Forces, and was killed in a stabbing attack in Jerusalem after surviving the October 7 assault.
Closing his remarks, Huckabee called on the audience to act decisively in support of Israel’s future: “I pray that we won’t wait for the world to do something great, that we will do something great for the world—and bring peace to Israel.”
