Hamas released a propaganda video on Saturday showing Israeli-American soldier Edan Alexander, 20, alive after over 420 days in captivity. The footage, the first of its kind in months, emphasizes Alexander’s plight and calls for action from both Israeli and US leaders.

Alexander, who was captured during Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, appeared gaunt as he pleaded for his release. Speaking in Hebrew, he expressed disappointment in Israel’s government, urging citizens to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a resolution. In English, he appealed to US President-elect Donald Trump to intervene, criticizing President Joe Biden’s handling of the situation.

“Fear and isolation are killing us,” Alexander said. Addressing Trump, he added, “Please don’t make the same mistakes. Use your influence to negotiate our freedom.”

Alexander’s family, who authorized the video’s publication, shared their pain and called for urgent action. His mother, Yael Alexander, spoke at a rally in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square, relaying Netanyahu’s assurance that conditions are “ripe” for a hostage deal following the Lebanon cease-fire.

The White House described the video as a “cruel reminder” of Hamas’ ongoing terror and reiterated its commitment to securing the release of hostages. Hamas has not issued a similar video in months, adding urgency to negotiations.

Alexander’s parents, Yael and Adi, joined calls for Trump and Biden to collaborate on a deal. “Every passing hour dims the prospect of their survival,” they said.
