Elderly Israeli Man Killed in Terror Attack Near Yokneam

By The Media Line Staff

An 85-year-old man was killed and a soldier seriously injured on Monday morning in a terrorist attack on a highway in northern Israel. The assailant was identified as Karem Jabarin, 25, an Israeli citizen from the Arab town of Ma’ale Iron. Jabarin rammed his car into a bus stop at the Tishbi Junction near Yokneam. He then attacked a soldier with a knife and seized the soldier’s rifle, opening fire on passing vehicles.

The elderly victim, Moshe Horan of northern Israel’s Kibbutz HaZore’a, was shot dead as he was driving with his son. Paramedics reported him dead at the scene. The soldier, an 18-year-old member of the Armored Corps, was rushed to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa in serious condition

Border Police officers en route to a training exercise shot and killed Jabarin as he continued to fire along the highway.

Israeli officials, including Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, condemned the attack. At a press conference in Jerusalem with top EU diplomat Kaja Kallas, Sa’ar said that the attack was “the result of the ongoing incitement” by the Palestinian Authority.

“Make no mistake, the war is against Western civilization. Against its values and its ways of life,” Sa’ar said. He described Israel as “the most attacked country in the world” and emphasized the importance of the state being allowed to defend itself.

Hamas praised the attack, describing it as a “heroic” response to Israeli escalation in the West Bank and Gaza.
