His appointment made him the youngest district court president in Israel. In legal circles in Beersheba, he was widely known as “the biker president,” a nickname reflecting his long-standing habit of commuting to court hearings by motorcycle. Amir Ohana, the speaker of the Knesset, said Sagi was “a straightforward man, very knowledgeable in criminal law, with a rare ability to find paths of compromise and agreement.” Otzma Yehudit MK Yitzhak Kreuzer, who served with Sagi on the Judicial Selection Committee, also paid tribute. “I knew Benny through our joint work on the Judicial Selection Committee, as well as in various professional meetings, including at assessment centers. Benny was a respected jurist, a serious, thoughtful and dedicated person who worked all his life to strengthen the justice system and serve the public,” Kreuzer said. Police said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing, as authorities work to determine how the vehicle entered the highway and the sequence of events that led to the fatal impact.
