2 Commercial Vessels Attacked Off Yemen Coast, Fires Reported
Two commercial vessels were damaged in separate incidents off the coast of Yemen on Saturday, UK maritime agencies reported. The British security firm Ambrey revealed that an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged cargo ship was hit by a missile 83 nautical miles southeast of Aden, resulting in a fire that was later contained.
The crew reported sighting a second missile, which did not strike the ship. Additionally, small boats in the area opened fire on the vessel, but no injuries were reported.
In another incident, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that a vessel was struck by an “unknown projectile” approximately 70 nautical miles southwest of Aden. This impact caused a fire on the aft section of the ship, though no casualties were reported.
No group has claimed responsibility for these attacks. These incidents occur in the context of a monthslong campaign by the Houthi group, which controls much of Yemen, targeting vessels off the country’s coast to demonstrate solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
