PARIS (Reuters) – Highlights of the fifth day at the French Open on Thursday (times GMT):

1639 BADOSA OVERCOMES RUSE

Spanish 10th seed Paula Badosa came from a set down to beat Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse 3-6 6-4 6-4 to advance to the third round, where she will face either 17th seed Daria Kasatkina or French wild card Leolia Jeanjean.

1619 KEYS SEES OFF BOULTER

Australian Open champion Madison Keys, seeded seventh, dispatched Britain’s Katie Boulter 6-1 6-3.

In the third round, she will be up against Victoria Azarenka or fellow American Sofia Kenin.

1515 GAUFF MARCHES ON, RUBLEV THROUGH

American second seed Coco Gauff beat Tereza Valentova of Czech Republic 6-2 6-4 to set up a third-round meeting with another Czech Marie Bouzkova.

In the men’s draw, 17th seed Andrey Rublev overcame Australia’s Adam Walton 7-6(1) 6-1 7-6(5) and will next face Frenchman Arthur Fils.

Top seed Jannik Sinner cruised into the third round with a 6-3 6-0 6-4 victory over 38-year-old Richard Gasquet, who was playing in his final tournament before retiring.

1352 ZVEREV KNOCKS OUT DE JONG

Third seed Alexander Zverev overcame a slow start to beat Dutchman Jesper De Jong 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-3 and advance to the third round.

1336 FILS GIVES FRANCE MATCH TO REMEMBER

French 14th seed Arthur Fils beat Spain’s Jaume Munar 7-6(3) 7-6(4) 2-6 0-6 6-4 in front of a raucous crowd on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, winning a thrilling second-round match lasting over four hours.

1219 QUALIFIER ROCHA SHOCKS 19TH SEED MENSIK

Portuguese qualifier Henrique Rocha, ranked 200th in the world, staged a memorable comeback to beat 19th seed Jakob Mensik 2-6 1-6 6-4 6-3 6-3.

Rocha, who is playing in a Grand Slam’s main draw for the first time, will face Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the third round.

1202 BUBLIK STUNS DE MINAUR

Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik fought back to shock ninth seed Alex de Minaur 2-6 2-6 6-4 6-3 6-2 and reach the French Open third round for the first time.

1155 PEGULA BEATS LI

American third seed Jessica Pegula overcame her compatriot Ann Li 6-3 7-6(3) to set up a third-round clash with the Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova.

1028 ANDREEVA CRUISES INTO THIRD ROUND

Russian sixth seed Mirra Andreeva beat American Ashlyn Krueger 6-3 6-4 to reach the third round.

0910 PLAY UNDER WAY

Play began with the sun shining and the temperature at Roland Garros around 19 degrees Celsius. Clouds are expected in the afternoon, but chances of rain are low.

Men’s top seed Jannik Sinner faces Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the second round, after American third seed Jessica Pegula plays compatriot Ann Li.

Top-ranked Americans including second seed Coco Gauff and seventh seed Madison Keys also play second-round matches, and British fifth seed Jack Draper meets Frenchman Gael Monfils.

Corentin Moutet, another local favourite, will bid to end Serbian Novak Djokovic’s quest for a 25th Grand Slam title.
