Stephen Curry is blazing a new trail by returning to his alma mater Davidson in the role of assistant general manager.

University officials confirmed the move Monday, making the Golden State Warriors guard the first active player in U.S. major professional sports to take an administrative position with an NCAA team.

Curry, who turns 37 on Friday, shined at the North Carolina school from 2006-09 before becoming an 11-time NBA All-Star, four-time champion and two-time league MVP with the Warriors.

Curry will work with general manager Austin Buntz to “provide guidance to the men’s and women’s teams based on his college and professional experience,” according to ESPN.

Along with his wife, Ayesha Curry, and longtime Davidson supporters Don, Matt and Eric Berman, Curry will also be launching an eight-figure fund for the Wildcats’ programs.

“The Davidson experience is top-notch,” Curry said in a statement released by the school. “My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni and continue to wave the Davidson flag. I want very talented, high character student athletes to have that same experience.”

Curry put Davidson hoops on the map during his three seasons on campus, earning two conference player of the year awards. He set the NCAA Division I record with 162 made 3-pointers as a sophomore and was a consensus All-American as a junior. The Wildcats reached the Elite Eight of the 2008 NCAA Tournament.

Drafted by Golden State with the No. 7 overall pick in 2009, Curry returned to Davidson to complete his degree in 2022. He is a member of the school’s Hall of Fame.
