(Reuters) -Russian drones struck an apartment building in Ukraine’s second largest city, Kharkiv, triggering a fire, injuring five people and prompting authorities to evacuate residents, officials said.

Drones hit two central districts after midnight — Slobidskyi and Osnovyansky.

Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said 11 drones had been deployed in the attack and seven people injured. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 22 residents had been evacuated from one section of the damaged building.

The mayor said another drone struck an area outside a medical facility, injuring a doctor and damaging the building and nearby cars.

Kharkiv, located about 30 km (18 miles) from the Russian border, successfully resisted capture in the early stages of Russia’s February 2022 invasion and remains a frequent target of Russian air assaults.
