Defenseman Thomas Harley agreed to an eight-year contract extension with the Dallas Stars worth an annual average of $10.6 million, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

He will come into possession of a full no-movement clause in the fourth year of the extension, according to ESPN.

Harley will become the Stars’ highest-paid defenseman next season, eclipsing Miro Heiskanen’s $8.45 million cap hit, and second-highest paid player after forward Mikko Rantanen, whose cap hit for 2025-26 will be $12 million.

Harley scored once and added seven assists in Dallas’ first nine games of the season. The 24-year-old entered the Stars’ Tuesday matchup with the Washington Capitals with 33 goals and 78 assists in 206 career games.

Harley was scheduled to reach restricted free agency next summer. The Stars signed him to a two-year bridge deal worth $4 million annually in 2024.

Dallas drafted Harley with the 18th overall pick in 2019. He has totaled five goals and 22 assists in 56 playoff games for the Stars, who reached each of the past three Western Conference finals.

Harley is a candidate to represent Canada at the Winter Olympics in February following his two-game cameo as an emergency alternate at the 4 Nations Face-Off. He had an assist on the opening goal of the final as Canada defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime.
