Cade York seems to have gotten the better of Justin Tucker while working out for the New Orleans Saints this week.
The Saints released kicker Blake Grupe and signed York, a former LSU kicker, to their practice squad among other moves Tuesday.
York and current practice squad kicker Charlie Smyth are left to battle it out for the Saints’ starting gig.
York, 24, has not been on an NFL roster in 2025. He has made 33 of 45 field-goal attempts and 51 of 54 extra-point tries during his career with the Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Washington Commanders and Cincinnati Bengals.
The workout was the first for Tucker since serving his 10-game suspension for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy stemming from allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior.
Tucker, a five-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection, was released by the Baltimore Ravens on May 5.
The Saints (2-9) addressed their kicking situation after Grupe missed two field goals during Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Grupe, who is 18 for 26 on field-goal tries this season, misfired from 38 and 47 yards before drilling a 33-yard attempt in the fourth quarter.
