Defenseman Jake Walman signed a seven-year, $49 million extension with the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

Walman, 29, joined the Oilers at the trade deadline last season from the San Jose Sharks following previous stints with the Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues.

Walman finished with a career-high 40 points (seven goals, 33 assists) in 65 games in 2024-25, including one goal and seven assists in 15 games with the Oilers. He added 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 22 playoff games.

A third-round draft pick by St. Louis in 2014, Walman has recorded 91 points (32 goals, 59 assists) and 149 penalty minutes in 267 games with four teams.

Also Monday, the Oilers signed captain Connor McDavid to a two-year, $25 million extension.

The two-time defending Western Conference champion Oilers open the 2025-26 regular season at home Wednesday night against the Calgary Flames.
