Miami Dolphins safety Ashtyn Davis sustained a lower leg injury during team drills on Tuesday and later left the team facilities wearing a walking boot on his left leg and using crutches, according to multiple reports.

The injury appeared to be non-contact, per reports. Davis, 28, has worked as the first-team strong safety at training camp, with fellow newcomer Minkah Fitzpatrick at free safety.

The Dolphins signed Davis as a free agent in March after he spent his first five seasons with the New York Jets. Davis played in 15 games last season (one start) and made 35 tackles, five tackles for loss and two interceptions.

His career totals are 175 tackles, nine tackles for loss, eight interceptions and 15 passes defensed in 69 games (22 starts).

The Jets selected Davis in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of California.

The Dolphins already are without safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (undisclosed), a former Detroit Lions starter who signed with Miami in March but started camp on the active/non-football injury list.

Dante Trader Jr., a fifth-round pick this year, has not practiced since late last week due to an undisclosed injury.
