Josh Byrnes, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ senior vice president of baseball operations, will be hired as the Colorado Rockies’ new general manager, The Athletic reported Wednesday.

The report comes nearly one month after Paul DePodesta was named as the Rockies’ new head of baseball operations.

Byrnes effectively will replace Bill Schmidt, who stepped down on Oct. 1 following Colorado’s majors-worst 43-119 season. It was the Rockies’ third consecutive 100-loss campaign — the first three for a franchise that played its first game in 1993.

The Rockies have yet to announce the move.

Byrnes, 55, has been working in MLB front offices for 32 seasons, including 2000-02 with Colorado as its assistant general manager under Dan O’Dowd.

Byrnes, who has supervised the Dodgers’ scouting and player development, has three World Series titles with Los Angeles (2020, 2024, 2025). He also served as an assistant GM with the Boston Red Sox when they ended their curse with a World Series title in 2004.
