Iona fired men’s basketball coach Tobin Anderson on Monday after just two seasons.

The Gaels finished 17-17 this season and were 33-34 under Anderson, 53.

Iona’s season ended with a 63-49 loss on Saturday to Mount St. Mary’s in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament final.

Anderson was hired on a five-year deal on March 21, 2023, to replace Rick Pitino, who departed to become the head coach at St. John’s.

Anderson led Fairleigh Dickinson to a 21-16 record in his lone season at that school in 2022-23, including a 63-58 upset of top-seeded Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. It was just the second time a No. 16 seed defeated a No. 1 seed in tournament history.

Before FDU, Anderson compiled a 209-62 record at Division II St. Thomas Aquinas from 2013-22.

ESPN reported that New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach Dan Geriot is a front-runner to replace Anderson.
