(SRN NEWS)-( ) The Air Force has issued a memo saying that transgender airmen ousted under a recent Trump administration directive will not be allowed to argue before a board of their peers to keep their job. The memo says military separation boards cannot independently decide whether to keep or discharge transgender airmen. It also states that the boards “must recommend separation of the member” if the airman is living openly as the opposite sex. ( ) An Ohio man has pleaded guilty to attacking a pair of Ohio State students outside a bar in Columbus because they are Jewish. The Justice Department has released a statement saying “Twenty-year-old Timur Mamatov (MAM-uh-tov) of Tipp City admitted in court that he assaulted the victims because they were Jewish. No American should fear being violently attacked based on their religious beliefs.” The defendant could be sentenced to as much as 10 years in prison. The state is the first one in India to expand its anti-conversion ban in this way and it is feared that other states will follow suit. India’s small Christian community has been under siege for the last decade, ever since a Hindu nationalist party came to power. Hindu leaders have expressed the desire to rid the country of all Christians and followers of any other religious faith.
( ) A group of Jewish organizations is urging America’s colleges and universities to tackle anti-Semitism, even as students are beginning to return for the fall semester. The Anti-Defamation League, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Hillel International and the Jewish Federations of North America are offering some tips for how schools can make campus more welcoming for Jewish students. The coalition says university officials need to keep a close eye on Palestinian protests to see that they don’t become anti-Semitic and they need to reject the Boycott, Divest, Sanctions movement that is aimed at isolating Israel.
