(SRN NEWS)-(  )  A number of competitors in this year’s World Cup are talking about their Christian faith.  Marc Guehi (GAY-ee) of the English national team is the son of a pastor in London and is playing his first season with Manchester City.  While captain at his previous club Crystal Palace, Guéhi defied the English Football Association’s rules by writing religious messages on his uniform during a Premier League Gay Pride Game.  He was not punished and drew a lot of public support for his stance.  In fact, a number of Muslim soccer players have joined with Guehi in expressing their opposition to being forced to celebrate Gay Pride during games.

(  )  The fight over abortion pills continues across the country.  Louisiana sued the FDA last year over the agency’s 2023 decision to remove an in-person dispensing requirement for abortion drugs.  This summer the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to consider Louisiana’s appeal of a district court’s decision to deny the state a preliminary injunction against the FDA.  Pro-life groups and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas want the Justice Department to apply the Comstock Act and ban all abortion pill distribution through the mail.  If the DOJ complies, then mailing abortion pills would be considered a violation of federal criminal law.

(  )  Beginning this month, Texas Tech will require faculty to teach in compliance with a 2025 state law that declares there are only two genders.  The law echoes the language of an executive order the Trump administration issued in January of last year that states “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female.”  Texas Tech faculty will be largely prohibited from teaching about so-called “gender fluidity” or gender as a spectrum.  There are narrow exceptions to this rule, such as discussions about intersex traits, so long as instructors do not “advocate for or validate sociological frameworks.”

(  )  Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says the San Francisco Giants failed to properly explain to players that they were allowed to decline to wear Gay Pride caps during the club’s annual Pride Night earlier this month.  Several members of the Giants added Bible verses to the themed caps, prompting a warning from the league that writing on the caps is a violation of league policy.  Manfred made his statement in a letter to Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley, who suggested the need for a congressional investigation into whether religious freedom was violated by big league baseball.
