)  A federal judge has ruled that South Dakota cannot enforce its abortion advertising ban on a reproductive health nonprofit.  U.S. District Judge Camela Theeler issued a preliminary injunction blocking South Dakota from enforcing the recently adopted state law against New York-based Mayday Health.  The ban prohibits the distribution and advertisement for unlawful abortion services, including abortion pills, in South Dakota.  The ruling does not strike down the law altogether.  Mayday Health is arguing that the statute is a violation of free speech and the judge granted the injunction on the theory that the plaintiffs will win at trial.

(  ) On Sunday France commemorated the mass arrest of Jews by French police in July, 1942 — one of the most shameful acts undertaken by the country’s wartime government.  French police rounded up thousands of Jews over two days dispatching everyone to Nazi death camps.  However, just before the ceremonies Sunday, a plaque in Paris honoring a couple who saved a 13-year-old child during the roundup was vandalized.  France has seen a surge in anti-Semitic acts, including threats, vandalism and physical violence.  The problem intensified following the October 7th, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel which sparked war in Gaza.

(  )  Lutheran World Relief is mobilizing an emergency response to help families affected by catastrophic flooding across Texas.  Ministry officials say they are focusing on providing emergency shelter, safe drinking water, food assistance, medical care, cleanup supplies and support for families displaced by the high water.  LWR had already staged emergency supplies in a number of locations across Texas including San Antonio and Corpus Christi.  A variety of other Christian relief groups are also descending on the state in the wake of the emergency, which comes one year after catastrophic flooding killed more than 100 people.
