(  )  According to a bevy of studies, marriage and family are in decline in this country.  Sixty years ago, about 72 percent of adults were married and over 90 percent would go on to marry.  Today, 46 percent of adults are unmarried and half of these people aren’t even interested in dating.  Population forecasters project that about 25 percent of Millennials and 33 percent of Generation Z will never marry.  Polls also reveal that about 29 percent of American adults live alone — making that arrangement the most common household type in the country.  Compare that to 1960, when single-person households were relatively rare.

(  )  This month’s report by Rhode Island’s attorney general detailing decades of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy is giving survivors a sense of vindication while renewing calls for accountability and support. The investigation identified 75 clergy members who sexually abused more than 300 children since 1950, though officials say the true number is likely higher. Survivors say the report confirms what they have long known and exposes years of secrecy within the church.  They are urging church leaders to provide meaningful support for victims, including help paying for therapy and other services.

(  )  Religious freedom advocates and human rights groups are marking one year since the March 2025 massacre that devastated Christian and Alawite communities in Syria.  Over a period of days, coordinated attacks by armed groups targeted civilians in towns and villages stretching from the outskirts of Latakia (lah-TAH-kee-uh) to rural coastal communities. Entire families were executed in their homes.  At least 40 churches, monasteries, and religious sites were desecrated, vandalized, or burned.  Over 25,000 residents of the region were forcibly displaced in a matter of weeks.  And numerous cases of abduction remain unresolved.

(  )  As Christianity wanes in the U.S. many people are turning to the occult.  The Conscious Life Expo, which convenes thousands of New Age spiritual seekers in Los Angeles each year, has just wrapped up.  The event is now attracting a diverse audience seeking meaning without God.  Organizer Michael Satava says “I think it’s evolved to much more of a religion about aliens.”  A number of the speakers at this year’s expo claimed to be aliens.  One man, claiming to be the reincarnation of Christ, sold metal and crystal gadgets promising divine healing.  The New Age movement is being fueled by podcasts and social media.
