(  )  A local architect in Turkey is on a mission to restore a 166-year-old Greek Orthodox church that was long a beacon of her hometown’s past.  Buse (BOO-say) Gul believes restoring the church left mostly in ruins by the earthquakes in southern Turkey three years ago will help locals reconnect to the city of Antakya (an-TAHK-yah).  After years of planning, campaigning and fundraising, Gul’s team recently uncovered the foundations of St. Paul’s Church from under a pile of rubble 16 feet high. The magnitude 7.8 quake on February 6th, 2023 and another one hours later, were among the worst natural disasters ever to hit Turkey.
(  )  Most American Jews say they are not Zionists — but it’s possible they just aren’t clear on what that term means.  Zionism is defined as the belief that the Jewish people have the right to possess the land granted to them by God in the Bible.  A new poll finds only one-third of American Jews call themselves Zionists, but nearly 90 percent say they support Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state where it is.  The survey was conducted by the Jewish Federations of North America and it also reveals that more than 70 percent of respondents feel an emotional connection to Israel and 60 percent say Israel makes them proud to be Jewish.
(  )  International Christian Concern says there’s a war against the Bible going on all around the globe.  Simply owning a copy of the scriptures can result in capital punishment in North Korea, Yemen and Afghanistan.  In countries such as Somalia and Mauritania, Bibles cannot be printed, translated, sold or imported.  Iranian authorities have forbidden the translation of the scriptures into Farsi — the language most Iranians speak.  And ICC reports that the government in Tehran has “printed a number of counterfeit Bibles with the intention of purposefully misleading individuals seeking to learn more about Christ.”

(  )  Religious freedom groups are cheering new legislation that would keep foreign officials who participate in persecution from visiting the U.S.  The Banning Perpetrators of Religious Persecution Act was introduced by Republican Senators James Lankford of Oklahoma and Ted Budd of North Carolina.  Shawn Wright, the president of International Christian Concern says “this legislation sends a powerful message that the United States stands firmly on the side of religious liberty and human dignity.  Those responsible for violating religious freedom should be denied the privileges afforded by entry into this country.”
