(SRN NEWS)  Gunmen attacked a church in Nigeria and killed two people this week, even as the country faces Trump administration threats of U.S. sanctions over persecution of Christians.  No group has claimed responsibility for Tuesday night’s attack in central Nigeria.  Police responded to reports of gunfire and found one person fatally shot inside the church and another nearby.  President Trump has warned that Christians face an existential threat in Nigeria, and the State Department has placed it on its list of Countries of Particular Concern.  Boko Haram, a terrorist group that has pledged allegiance to ISIS, has killed thousands of Christians in Nigeria.

(  )  Feminists claim that Christianity keeps women down, but that assertion flies in the face of the current situation in this country.  Outspoken women within the ranks of conservative Evangelicalism are engaging in ongoing political and social debates.  In a Dallas suburb, more than 6,500 conservative Christian women attended an October conference organized by commentator Allie Beth Stuckey.  Ahead of the conference, Stuckey evoked the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, saying she had been inundated with messages from Christian women saying, “We’re done sitting on the sidelines of politics and culture.’’

(  )  Former Vice President Dick Cheney’s funeral Thursday at the National Cathedral in Washington once again put the giant church in the spotlight.  Multiple presidents have received state funerals there.  Memorials have also been held there for towering figures in American history, including the first black Supreme Court justice, Thurgood Marshall, and astronaut Neil Armstrong.  Architect Pierre L’Enfant’s original design plan for Washington D.C. included a “church for national purposes.”  In 1893, a congressional charter was authorized to build that church.  The National Cathedral was finally completed in 1990.

(  )  A veteran FBI employee is claiming in a lawsuit that he was fired last month after displaying a Gay Pride flag at his workspace.  David Maltinsky (mal-TIN-skee) had worked at the FBI for 16 years.  He has been dismissed for an inappropriate display of political signage.  The plaintiff also promoted Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs during his time at the bureau.  President Trump issued an executive order in January that put an end to all DEI programs within the federal government.  The FBI has also instituted a rule against any employee promoting any particular political movements or ideologies on the job.
