(SRN NEWS) – Arizona’s governor wants to repeal the state law requiring an annual abortion report.  Democrat Katie Hobbs says it can infringe on privacy for residents, even if it doesn’t collect information such as patients’ names and birthdates.  She made her call to stop the reporting requirements as the state detailed its abortion data covering 2023.  Two states don’t collect such data at all, and two others make it voluntary.  Advocates say states need to collect relevant information so that they have enough to understand how their policies play out.

The Supreme Court will consider South Carolina’s move to cut off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood, the latest abortion-related case the justices will consider since overturning Roe versus Wade in 2022.  The court is taking up an appeal from the state, agreeing to consider the legal question of whether Medicaid patients can sue over their right to choose their own qualified provider.  South Carolina moved in 2018 to cut off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood, which is the nation’s single largest abortion business.
Males competing against females in school sports has become one of the most contentious topics in the country and everyone from lawmakers to judges to athletic leagues are grappling with it.  In high school, the rules vary from state to state, with about half of them passing legislation that effectively bars boys from playing against girls.  The NCAA has decided to pass the buck to the governing bodies of each individual sport, as has the International Olympic Committee.  The national governing bodies are gradually beginning to ban men from women’s competition as well.
United Methodist News Service reports that a religious schism has turned deadly in Nigeria, with a church member fatally shot and two young children killed as homes were set ablaze.  The violence apparently stems from a split in the global UMC over its decision to embrace gay marriage and homosexual ordination.  One church member was shot and killed during a confrontation in Taraba state.  The homes were put to the torch in the same area, claiming the lives of two children, ages two and four.  They had been attending a local UMC school.
