Rangers place All-Star SS Corey Seager (hamstring) on 10-day IL

The Texas Rangers placed All-Star shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday due to a right hamstring strain.

The move was retroactive to Sunday. In a corresponding move, the Rangers activated catcher Kyle Higashioka (mild left intercostal strain) from the 10-day IL.

Seager, 31, has missed four of the team’s last five games since May 8. He last played Saturday, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs in 10-3 road win against the Detroit Tigers.

The Rangers used Josh Smith to play shortstop on Thursday and Friday, and Ezequiel Duran on Sunday and Monday.

Seager is batting .300 with six home runs, 12 RBIs, a .346 on-base percentage and a .520 slugging percentage in 26 games this season.

For his career, the five-time All-Star has batted .291 with 206 homers and 629 RBIs in 1,055 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2015-21) and Rangers. He was the 2016 National League Rookie of the Year, and the World Series MVP in 2020 (Dodgers) and 2023 (Rangers).

Higashioka, 35, has not played for the Rangers since April 29. He is batting .254 (15-for-59) with one homer and eight RBIs in 17 games. For his career, Higashioka is a .214 hitter with 58 homers and 174 RBIs in 415 games for the New York Yankees (2017-23), San Diego Padres (2024) and Rangers.
