Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger plans to undergo surgery to repair a wrist injury originally sustained in mid-August.

Burger, 29, told the Dallas Morning News following Sunday’s season-ending loss at Cleveland that he’s scheduled for a procedure later this week to repair a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist.

Burger battled injuries throughout his first season with the Rangers, making three trips to the injured list with wrist, oblique and quadriceps issues. He played through the wrist injury after receiving a cortisone injection.

“The shot helped for the first half of the month, but then I started doing some compensating,” Burger told the newspaper. “And I ended up putting myself in a lot of bad counts.”

He was 1-for-3 with two RBIs on Sunday to finish with a .236 batting average, 16 homers and 53 RBIs in 103 games.

Acquired from Miami in a December 2024 trade, Burger is a career .247 hitter with 88 homers and 238 RBIs in 447 games with the Chicago White Sox (2021-23), Marlins (2023-24) and Rangers. Chicago drafted him in the first round (11th overall) in 2017.
