The Philadelphia Union loaned homegrown player David Vazquez to San Diego for the rest of the 2025 season.

In exchange, the Union will receive $50,000 in general allocation money for 2025 and $50,000 more for 2026. The loan also comes with an option to make it a permanent move.

Vazquez signed with Philadelphia on April 29, 2024. He has two goals and one assist in 14 starts this season for MLS NEXT Pro side Union II.

Vazquez made his MLS debut last month, playing 19 minutes as a substitute in the Union’s 1-0 road loss against the Columbus Crew on June 29.

San Diego also acquired Pedro Soma from the Spanish club UE Cornella. He is under contract through 2027 with an option for 2028.

He spent last season on loan with powerhouse FC Barcelona’s reserve side, Barca B, and has played in 44 matches in his fledgling career.

“We’re excited to welcome Pedro to San Diego,” said sporting director Tyler Heaps. “He’s an intelligent midfielder with a very high level of technical ability and game understanding. He’s excellent in tight spaces, comfortable under pressure, and confident playing through the lines. Defensively, he brings an aggressive edge and a strong counter-pressing mentality.”
