Pete Alonso tied Darryl Strawberry atop the New York Mets’ all-time home run list Saturday night, when the slugging first baseman homered in the second inning against the host Milwaukee Brewers.

Alonso hit a 1-2 pitch from Tobias Myers 413 feet beyond the left-centerfield wall for his 252nd regular season homer, tying the mark set by Strawberry from 1983-90. Alonso tied the record in his 963rd regular season game – 146 fewer than Strawberry.

The homer was the 26th of the season for Alonso, a five-time All-Star.

The milestone homer was hit at an appropriate locale for Alonso, who delivered the biggest hit of his career last Oct. 3, when his one-out, go-ahead three-run blast in the ninth inning of the decisive Game 3 of a National League wild-card series helped the Mets stave off elimination and beat the Brewers, 4-2. New York advanced to the NL Championship Series before falling to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in six games.
