Edmonton Oilers forward Kasperi Kapanen will miss several weeks with an undisclosed injury, coach Kris Knoblauch said Tuesday.

Kapanen crashed into the boards while attempting a hit on Detroit defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker in the first period of the Red Wings’ 4-2 home victory on Sunday. Kapanen played one shift early in the second period before exiting for the rest of the game.

“Right now, it’s looking (like) up to six (weeks),” Knoblauch said ahead of the Oilers’ road game on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators. “He’ll be unavailable for a while.”

Kapanen, 29, has two assists, four blocks, 16 hits and a minus-2 rating in six games this season.

Pittsburgh selected the Finland native 22nd overall in the 2014 NHL Draft. He has 224 points (90 goals, 134 assists), in 533 regular-season games for the Toronto Maple Leafs (2015-20), Penguins (2020-23), St. Louis Blues (2024) and Oilers (2024-present).

Edmonton defenseman Jake Walman is expected to make his season debut Tuesday after missing the first six games with an undisclosed injury.

Walman, 29, has 91 points (32 goals, 59 assists) in 267 career games for the Blues (2019-22), Red Wings (2022-24), San Jose Sharks (2024-25) and Oilers (2025).
