NFL upholds Broncos LB Dre Greenlaw’s 1-game suspension

The NFL upheld the one-game suspension of Denver Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw, league spokesman Michael Signora announced Tuesday.
The league issued the suspension on Monday in response to Greenlaw’s postgame actions toward referee Brad Allen after the Broncos converted a game-winning field goal to defeat the New York Giants 33-32.
In its ruling, the league said Greenlaw chased after Allen “and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field.”
Greenlaw, who unsuccessfully appealed the suspension, will miss the entire week of practice and Sunday’s home game against the Dallas Cowboys. He will forfeit his game check of $192,778.
The seven-year veteran was playing his first game with the Broncos last Sunday. He spent his first six seasons in San Francisco and amassed 455 total tackles, including 247 in a two-year span from 2022-23.
Greenlaw suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the 2023 Super Bowl and played in only two games for the 49ers the following season. He inked a three-year, $31.5 million contract with Denver in the offseason but sat out the entire preseason and first six games for his new team this fall.
Greenlaw was credited with six tackles and a quarterback hit in 21 snaps against the Giants.
Fifth-year Bronco Justin Strnad, who has five starts this season, is expected to reclaim his starting role in Greenlaw’s absence.
