NFL transactions roundup: Bengals sign LB Oren Burks

The Cincinnati Bengals signed linebacker Oren Burks to a two-year contract on Monday. Financial terms were not revealed.

A third-round draft pick by Green Bay in 2018, he spent four seasons with the Packers, two with the San Francisco 49ers and one with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Burks, who turns 30 on Friday, has appeared in 108 games (17 starts) and has 217 tackles (eight for loss), two sacks, three passes defensed, one interception, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

–Linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles signed a free agent deal with the New York Giants. Contract details were not revealed.

Flannigan-Fowles spent the past five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, making seven starts in 73 games. In 2024, he appeared in 12 games (three starts) and amassed 17 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and two passes defensed.

For his NFL career, he has 96 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and three passes defensed.

–The Houston Texans signed former Giant fullback Jakob Johnson to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports.

Johnson, who plays both tight end and fullback, appeared in three games with the Giants last season and in 30 games (20 starts) with the Raiders the previous two seasons. He spent three seasons with the Patriots to start his career.

In Houston, he will be reunited with former Patriots tight ends and fullbacks coach Nick Caley, who is the Texans’ new offensive coordinator.

A native of Stuttgart, Germany, Johnson has totaled 19 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown in 70 career games (35 starts) with the New England Patriots (2019-21), Raiders (2022-23) and Giants.

–The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed veteran offensive tackle Charlie Heck. Terms were not disclosed.

Heck, 28, split last season with the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco following four seasons with Houston.

e has played in 50 games (23 starts) with the Texans, Cardinals and 49ers since Houston drafted him in the fourth round in 2020.

–The Miami Dolphins signed cornerback Artie Burns to a one-year deal, ESPN reported. Financial terms were not disclosed.

It’s a homecoming for Burns, a Miami native who was drafted in the first round by Pittsburgh in 2016 out of the University of Miami.

Burns, 29, has recorded four interceptions, 38 passes defensed and 199 tackles in 90 games (39 starts) with the Steelers (2016-19), Bears (2021) and Seahawks (2022-24).

–The Eagles agreed to terms with tight end Kylen Granson on a one-year deal. Terms were not revealed.

Granson, who turns 27 next week, spent the past four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, who drafted him in the fourth round in 2021.

He caught 14 passes for 182 yards in 17 games (six starts) in 2024, bringing his career totals to 86 catches for 958 yards and one touchdown in 62 games (17 starts).

–Safety Juan Thornhill left the Cleveland Browns for the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, agreeing to a one-year deal per multiple media reports.

Thornhill, 29, spent four years with the Chiefs, helping Kansas City win the Super Bowl after the 2022 season, before playing the past two years in Cleveland. In 2024, he appeared in 11 games, all starts, and amassed 49 tackles (one for loss) and three passes defensed.

In 87 career NFL games (74 starts), he has eight interceptions, one sack, 337 tackles (six for loss), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 24 passes defensed.
