NEW ORLEANS – Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley needed only 31 first-half rushing yards in Sunday’s Super Bowl to make history, as he broke the all-time NFL record for most rushing yards in a regular season plus playoffs.
This adds another accolade to his dazzlingly prolific 2024-25 campaign.
By halftime of the championship match, Barkley had amassed 2,478 yards for the season, eclipsing the 2,476 record set by Terrell Davis in 1998 for the Broncos.
It was a subdued half for Barkley, who celebrates his 28th birthday on Sunday after a career-best year in Philadelphia, becoming only the ninth player with 2,000 or more rushing yards across the 17-game regular season.
The record was salt in the wound for New York Giants fans, who could only watch helplessly as their team let the Bronx-born Barkley walk off to Philadelphia in free agency last year.
